In partnership with the Denver Jazz Fest, Nocturne presents vocalist Marion Powers with her quintet as she honors the iconic Billie Holiday. Nicknamed “Lady Day,” Holiday’s prolific career and inimitable vocal style established her as a timeless voice in jazz.

Powers is an award-winning jazz vocalist with dynamic improvisation skills and a modern, sensitive approach to songwriting and arranging. Heavily influenced by classic jazz singers like Holiday, Carmen McRae and Sarah Vaughan, Marion’s direct experiences with Christian McBride, Dianne Reeves, Marshall Gilkes, Johnaye Kendrick and Melissa Aldana have been instrumental to her artistic development.

Marion earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in jazz performance from the legendary University of North Texas. In addition to a busy performance calendar filled with dates in Colorado and throughout the United States, Marion maintains a worldwide voice studio and is a professor at the University of Northern Colorado.
