Hailing from Princeton, New Jersey, Mervine began his playing career at the age of thirteen. He attended the University of Colorado Boulder for jazz studies, but after just a year decided to become a working trumpet player. Gabriel continued his studies privately with Bobby Shew, Roger Ingram, Greg Gisbert and others.
Gaining quick recognition, Mervine began to perform with stars including Natalie Cole, Christian McBride, The Clayton/Hamilton Orchestra, The Colorado Symphony, The Temptations, Terence Blanchard, Karl Denson, John Scofield, Hugh Jackman, Lonnie Smith, Russell Malone, The Who, Maceo Parker, Wycliff Gordon, Sean Jones, Roberta Gambarini, the Motet and Houston Person, while also playing everything from Mariachi to Mahler. Now one of the most respected trumpeters in Colorado, Gabriel is also a renowned bandleader, taking his ensembles on new sonic journeys with every performance.
